Abstract

Test anxiety has been a topic that has been researched for many years, especially in the fields of education and psychology, and is still up-to-date with the ever-changing education and examination system. Test anxiety is an increasing problem for middle school students with the entrance test to high schools. Cognitive behavioral therapy is known to be an effective method in dealing with test anxiety. In this case report, a six-session cognitive behavioral therapy-based counseling process with a 14-year-old eighth grade student who had test anxiety is discussed. In the counseling process, which is based on the cognitive behavioral therapy approach, the A-B-C model, cognitive distortions and negative automatic thoughts were used. The client was enabled to change her cognitive distortions and negative automatic thoughts. The client reframed her thoughts about the Test. The anxious and stressful body posture of the client at the beginning has left its place to a more comfortable and confident body posture at the end of the session. Consistent with the literature, it has been observed that cognitive behavioral therapy-based counseling sessions are effective.
